That would destroy all of their "hard work" to get her away from her family. The problem with this whole thing is that, as a four year old, she will always remember her daddy and he will never be Matt Capobianco. And when she is old enough to do any research, she will find out exactly what the Capobiancos did to her family (again, not the Capobianco family) and she will be very angry. Almost every adult adoptee agrees that this will not end well for the Capobianos and the family they fought so hard for will go up in dust. They will grow old alone, while Veronica goes home to her true family - not the legislated one that was forced on her.Diane Reardonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09845685497767310960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-13497364858509349922013-10-28T08:27:43.232-04:002013-10-28T08:27:43.232-04:00I personally found this case heartbreaking. The li...I personally found this case heartbreaking. The little girl at the center is a person but the adoption attorney and the agency, along with her biological mother made her a commodity to be purchased at a high price, and then the couple who pursued her adoption turned her into a prize to be won. The only people who actually treated this child with unselfish love were her father and stepmother and her other extended family who supported him in his Solomon-like decision to put her needs above his own, and removed her as the prize in this game of human tug-of-war by letting her go.It is criminal how the other side were allowed to vilify him and demonize him, smearing his good name, and the good names of his family and the Cherokee Nation in the name of "saving" a child who never once needed saving from her biological family. It is even more sad that they were allowed to do this but if supporters of Dusten spoke up they were hit with a barrage of lies and written abuse. For some involved this was a case of not only her biological family being denied her but also her Indian heritage, and when this was pointed out, this truth was skewed and an entire culture ridiculed. This case was irregular from the start with the lies and manipulations and a couple who pursued an "at-risk" adoption with the single-mindedness of a deadly predator. And what is worse, now people involved want to dismantle the Indian Child Welfare Act that should have protected Veronica rather than strengthening it so this cannot happen again. They cite that this is necessary in order to "save Indian children." But when asked why they only save the newborn Indian children while those who are older are left alone, they refuse to answer. So now that you know my feelings on the matter, what can we do to stop these predatory types of adoptions where the rights of fathers and other biological family are legally trampled by manipulation of the system? We have lived in Kenya for several years, and since my husband is medical we ended up with very sick and malnurished (weighing on 4 lbs at 15 months)twin girls in our home. their birth mom died, dad is unknown, elderly grandmother had no help or resources or desire to raise the girls. The officially signed off that they wanted us to adopt them. We processed an international adoption, but after two years and thousands of dollars--we have been denied due to "pre-selection" --a rule in the Hague Adoption Convention. Because they know us and are bonded to us they can never be our children legally and travel to the US.
There is good in the HAC Treaty but parts do not consider the children.
We were told to drop them off at an orphanage (with millions of other children in Kenya) if we loved them. Just reread the conditions that are being laid here (for good reasons, I might add). The whole enterprise reeks of a criminal enterprise. The sinister side of this enterprise is only too evident. Even the Hague had to address it. Never mind it gives the impression that international adoption is being done legally. It only seeks to take advantage of legal cover.
Ever wonder why when an earth quake hits a country, international traffickers move in to steal babies en masse? I recall a report of 36,000 babies stolen from a single earth quake incident in a country I cannot quite remember now. And stop talking about 5 million orphans in this or that country. You grab the numbers from thin air as PR to facilitate the legal theft. I am afraid all this is a legal baby trade and nothing more. Third world countries would be better advised to shut down these programs. They fuel a negative and stereotypical image of their countries than any meaningful benefit they derive from them.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02726143289682500822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-44192862831858145422012-09-10T22:13:16.474-04:002012-09-10T22:13:16.474-04:00So what happens to the kids that were promised to ...So what happens to the kids that were promised to the Orange County families for adoption and what legal recourse is there for the families to get back their deposits for adoption for these kids when the agency (Nightlight) knowingly took money for kids that they had to legal basis to offer up for adoption?nbwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07929358134794460761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-12552382161976473472012-06-15T21:49:18.725-04:002012-06-15T21:49:18.725-04:00USCIS Service Center and the National Benefit Cent...USCIS Service Center and the National Benefit Center Locations: Each Service Center location accepts and processes certain USCIS forms and immigration cases. Regarding this statement "Apparently, agencies are counseling clients to join list-serves such as Waiting Child Advocates on Yahoo, who list individual agency’s special needs children. The clients of agency A will join the list, find a child on Agency B’s list and request further info from agency B, then take this info back to Agency A who will submit an Letter of Intent (LOI)." Might it not occur to the authors that perhaps agencies see the value of clients connecting with a well-informed advocacy group to help them prepare for special needs adoption with the wisdom and "been there done that" experience of parents who have adopted special needs children? An online course in a vacuum cannot replace the insight of those who are successfully parenting children with various special needs. Why do we always suspect a profit motive? Maybe there is a value to connecting with seasoned adoptive parents - who volunteer countless hours to help more children be considered for adoption - children who might be overlooked because of a label. I am also impressed with the level of dignity and respect given to children and families on these yahoo group grassroots efforts of adoptive parents. In addition there are numerous resources continually being shared from local specialists for various special needs to links to special needs support groups. Pseudonymes are used for the children to help protect their privacy. Many children are finding families as a PAP learns more about parenting a child w/ a certain need and requests a file from their agency to review. As for case stealing - agencies have designated children's files for 3 months. It's up to the CCCWA if a child is hard to place or aging out to warrant moving a child's file from an agency to another. Obviously - waiting longer in an orphanage or aging out of a chance for adoption isn't in the child's best interest. I'd love for the breaking story to be : Parents Who Have Adopted Special Needs Children Give Back Countless Volunteer Hours to Help Other Waiting Children Find Families Ready and Prepared to Welcome Them! " Do you publish such good news stories? As for regulating the passion that an adoptive parent has to help other children find forever families - I think parents have a right to contribute to the common good. The article refers to these parents as "unregulated" advocates - good grief. These unregulated advocates are parents wanting to give a peek into their world of what they have discovered regarding parenting special needs children. Special needs adoption isn't easy - but so worth the hard-work and effort. What drives the yahoo list-serve groups is the belief that every child deserves a loving family. Privacy needs to be maintained - but keeping a child hidden to the point that no one can consider him or her serves no purpose either. Children having families serves the common good, and the common good is something we should all be able to contribute to freely.TwinCitiesGalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16247611793724648403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-84202721695269373772012-03-19T17:17:09.125-04:002012-03-19T17:17:09.125-04:00We are in the midst of creating a new website and ...We are in the midst of creating a new website and updating our information so the directory is currently offline. If you would like a copy of the 2010 edition, please email us at: pearadopt@yahoo.comPEARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01768583173126899015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-61521947780209404082012-03-18T20:52:02.939-04:002012-03-18T20:52:02.939-04:00What happened to the directory? What happened to the directory?Krissiemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02456386196363486725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-71415658843615481592012-03-18T20:30:43.528-04:002012-03-18T20:30:43.528-04:00PEAR is right to be concerned with the Special Foc...PEAR is right to be concerned with the Special Focus and Special Needs program in China. With the decline in "healthy" foundlings following the Hunan scandal of 2005, many orphanages shifted their attention to older children ("the "Aging Out"kids one sees advocated for) and other special needs children, realizing that adoptive families would tire of the wait. On one of our blogs we detail one such "Special Focus" program promoted by WACAP, which was largely comprised of children obtained from birth families under the impression that they were simply going to the orphanage for schooling. Later, they were informed that the child was in fact being internationally adopted. Adoptive families were falsely told that the children had been relinquished due to poverty or death, when in fact many of the birth families were neither. It is a terrible situation for all involved, as birth families and their children are intending to have reunions and adoptive families are being broadsided by revelations that they in no way anticipated.Research-China.Orghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09137919637778021754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-45961244493856480752012-03-13T06:17:29.259-04:002012-03-13T06:17:29.259-04:00SRe: #6- Yes, some adoptive parents were taking pa...SRe: #6- Yes, some adoptive parents were taking paperwork over to the Ugandan Embassy located in Nairobi, Kenya. Most of them were driving, not flying.

The process of applying for a Ugandan passport at the Embassy is a perfectly legal way of expediting things. (This is the case for countries all over the world; most embassies are equipped to provide passports for their citizens.) Moreover, this step would not have been necessary at all had the local office (here in Kampala) tasked with passport issuance not been sitting on applications.

The parents that were traveling to Kenya were having to choose between waiting in Kampala for 2+ months, paying a bribe to "grease the wheels," or, alternatively, pursuing a perfectly legal, bribe-free method of obtaining a passport to which their child was legally entitled.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16025110819718211332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5005470146953673773.post-4412682665029928102012-03-03T21:47:40.081-05:002012-03-03T21:47:40.081-05:00Hi,
